Purpose
His Holiness Swami Chinmayananda, founder of Chinmaya Mission, stated that
teaching study classes is a way for spiritual students to deepen their clarity
in Vedantic studies. He encouraged all sincere students to share their knowledge
of universal Truth, as received from the guru, the ancient rishis, and sacred
scriptures. He inspired all to spread the light of Knowledge, of Oneness, in all
hearts, so as to transform society through spiritual awakening.
This intensive Vedanta course furthers one’s inner self-unfoldment, enhances
one’s understanding of subtle spiritual concepts, and helps one better serve
society and conduct Chinmaya Mission’s Vedanta study classes.

Curriculum
The course provides an overview of the lifestyle and learning that monks of
Chinmaya Mission undergo in their training. The study of Vedantic concepts,
taught in English and based on original Sanskrit texts (Bhagavad Gita,
Upanishads, and/or introductory texts), along with classes on meditation,
Sanskrit chanting, and devotional texts, guide each student toward deeper
spiritual fulfillment.
The well-balanced daily schedule allows ample time for study, reflection,
service, and solitude, so that each student achieves internal integration and
external harmony through the confluence of karma yoga, jnana yoga, and bhakti
yoga. The secluded and serene ashram surroundings, in the midst of majestic
Redwood trees and rolling hills, is a perfect and beautiful haven for sincere
spiritual seekers.

Reviews on DSC
“In my opinion, such Dharma Sevak Courses should be promoted more
vigorously, even if an individual does not spend as much time later on as
expected in Mission work. Such courses will undoubtedly change each
participant’s thinking and way of life.”
- Brahmachari Uddhav Chaitanya (Chinmaya Mission Dallas-Fort Worth)
“The Dharma Sevak Course helps us refocus on the goal and purpose of life. It
prepares us to rightly absorb Vedantic knowledge and live in solitude
internally, no matter what duties we are fulfilling externally. Age is not a
criterion here. It is all about an individual’s spiritual unfoldment.”
- Brahmachari Prabodh Chaitanya (Chinmaya Mission San Jose)
