Frequently Asked Questions
These FAQ's apply to the groups or individuals who are planning to
visit, and not as part of the Chinmaya Mission camps conducted at Krishnalaya. If you are coming as part of the Chinmaya Mission Camp, the
lodgings, food and other facilities are included in the fees for the mission
program. Please reserve your place by going thru the relevant camp webpage
or contacting Krishnalaya directly.
1) Please may I have the information regarding number of rooms, capacity
per room, and on attached bath?
A: The ashram
lodges 80 people comfortably, and nine of the rooms have balconies facing
the river. Every room has an attached bathroom. Nearly half of the rooms are
two bedrooms suites with a bathroom accessible by both rooms, and a two
person capacity per room. There are a few rooms which are smaller. Please
call to discuss the types of rooms you would need.
2) What is the cost per Room?
A: There is a non-refundable deposit of $20 per room, payable by check to
Chinmaya Mission West. Using Paypal, please add the 2.9% + $0.30 USD per
transaction service charge, for
$20.88 per room deposit. Although more is always appreciated in order cover
utilities, services and maintenance, the minimum donation for rooms is
recommended as follows:
The Double rooms, (Suites):
$80/night
The Single rooms: $50/night
The Single medium room (with two twin beds): $65/night
3) What is the cost for group rentals?
What is the cost for the conference hall?
A: $150 per day for the
conference hall, with a non-refundable deposit required. The room rate could
vary for group rentals. Please contact
krishnalaya@chinmayamission.org for more information regarding cost
for your group.
4) What are the Kitchen facilities available in Krishnalaya?
A:
If you have a large group you may rent the kitchen facilities. The cost is
$150/day for the kitchen /dining hall building. You are also responsible for
daily clean-up, dish washing, etc.
Others (small groups or individual families) can use only the dining area,
where there is a microwave, toaster and the refrigerator for your convince.
You should bring your own plates and dishes. Please note that only
vegetarian food is allowed to be consumed at Krishnalaya.
There is No Smoking and No Alcohol allowed anywhere on the premises of
Krishnalaya.
5) What are the reservation and cancellation
policies?
A: Reservations for Chinmaya Mission events are managed by
the respective centers; please follow their policy for reservation and
cancellation. All other reservations must be guaranteed by a 25% deposit.
This deposit is collected immediately upon confirmation of the reservation.
If the reservation is cancelled/amended 60 days or more, prior to the
arrival date, then the deposit will be fully refunded. In all other cases,
no refund will be given.
6) What is the travel time from/to SFO or San Jose air port?
A: From SFO, it takes about 4.5 hours and from San Jose airport, it takes
about 5 hours by automobile or charter bus. There are no rail or public
buses servicing the northern California coastal area from San Francisco.

7) How is the weather in Piercy?
A: The temperature varies from the
90's in the summer to the 40's in the winter. (See the weather map on the
left to see current conditions), with night-time temperatures being a bit
cooler. It is advised that you bring a fleece jacket. During the summer
time, swimming is available in the Eel River; which is less than a 2 minute
walk. Please use caution when you go to the river as there is no life guard
on duty.

8) Are children allowed in Krishnalaya?
A: There are
children's camp conducted by different Chinmaya Mission centers every year,
and there are also family camps conducted at Krishnalaya. The Dharma Sevak
Course, conducted by Chinmaya Mission every year in the summer, is not a
family camp, and it is strictly for adults. Please check with
krishnalaya@chinmayamission.org to know the timings of the various
camps at this site. If you are coming with your own group (other than the
Chinmaya Mission) or as individual families, it is up to the group's
organizers weather to bring children or not. You are responsible to
supervise your children at all times.
9) Who is the resident acharya at Krishnalaya?
A:
Brahmachari Eric is the resident
Acharya at Krishnalaya. There are also other visiting Acharyas from various
centers at times. Please check with
krishnalaya@chinmayamission.org to know the timings of the camps if
you would like to participate.
